Armenia’s Interior Ministry has proposed significantly increasing state fees for obtaining and renouncing Armenian citizenship.
Under the proposal, the fee for obtaining Armenian citizenship could rise fivefold to around $680, according to Sputnik Armenia.
The charge for renouncing Armenian citizenship could see an even larger increase, rising tenfold to approximately $4,100.
The proposed changes come after Deputy Interior Minister Armen Ghazaryan said in August that the procedure for ethnic Armenians to obtain Armenian citizenship had become excessively simplified and should be reconsidered.
