Armenia Removes Mount Ararat Image from Border Stamps

Border guards of Armenia’s National Security Service have begun using new entry and exit stamps that no longer display the image of Mount Ararat (known in Türkiye as Mount Ağrı).

The change officially took effect on November 1, The Caspian Post reports via Armenian media.

The redesigned stamps now feature an airplane symbol and the inscription “Zvartnots” - the name of Yerevan’s international airport - along with the word “Armenia” written in both Armenian and English.

The Armenian Cabinet approved the decision during a government meeting held on September 11.

Mount Ararat, located in eastern Türkiye to the north of Lake Van, has historically been regarded as a national symbol by Armenia, even though it lies outside the country’s borders.
