A court in Yerevan has extended the house arrest of businessman and political figure Samvel Karapetyan for an additional three months.
The court ruled that the preventive measure should remain in place with certain restrictions, The Caspian Post reports, citing Armenian media.
Karapetyan, who is associated with the “Strong Armenia” political movement, is also a declared prime ministerial candidate. Despite the extension of his house arrest, the court permitted him to give interviews while the measure is in effect.
Earlier, Armenia’s Investigative Committee concluded its investigation into a criminal case involving Samvel Karapetyan, the owner of Electric Networks of Armenia, along with two executives of affiliated companies identified as V. T. and A. Kh.
The case includes several charges, among them tax evasion, money laundering, large-scale embezzlement and public calls to seize power.
