Armenian Parliament Speaker Alen Simonyan said he plans to file a lawsuit against former president Robert Kocharyan, accusing him of making offensive remarks.
The dispute follows comments Kocharyan made at a press conference, where he criticized Simonyan’s character and suggested that someone he described as unreliable would not have been fit for proper military service, The Caspian Post reports, citing Armenian media.
The former president was responding to Simonyan’s recent claims that Armenia’s armed forces were in disarray during Kocharyan’s time in office.
During the same appearance, Kocharyan also dismissed Simonyan’s statements more broadly, saying the parliament speaker often made unreasonable claims and did not warrant serious attention.
Simonyan said the remarks went beyond acceptable limits and confirmed his intention to take the matter to court.
