Azerbaijan Celebrating Victory Day

Azerbaijan is celebrating Victory Day on November 8, commemorating the country's victory in the 2020 Patriotic War and the liberation of the city of Shusha.

The war began on September 27, 2020, following what Azerbaijan described as another military provocation by Armenia. The Azerbaijani people launched the Patriotic War to liberate territories that had remained under occupation.

The 44-day war culminated on November 8 with the liberation of Shusha, marking a historic milestone in Azerbaijan's restoration of its territorial integrity. The conflict ended with Armenia's capitulation.

On December 3, 2020, Azerbaijani President and Supreme Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces Ilham Aliyev signed a decree establishing Victory Day in the Republic of Azerbaijan.

Under the decree, November 8 was designated as an annual national holiday commemorating the country's victory in the Patriotic War.
