Azerbaijan Reiterates Support for Strenghtening Cooperation within BSEC

Azerbaijan’s Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov on Friday met with Secretary General of the Black Sea Economic Cooperation Organization (BSEC) Lazăr Comănescu.

The meeting focused on Azerbaijan-BSEC cooperation, Azerbaijan's chairmanship of the Organization in the first half of this year, as well as the regional and international matters, The Caspian Post reports, citing the country's Foreign Ministry.

Describing BSEC as one of the pivotal platforms in promoting and advancing regional cooperation, Minister Jeyhun Bayramov reiterated Azerbaijan’s further support for strengthening existing cooperation within the Organization.

FM Bayramov highlighted Azerbaijan's initiatives in the regional economy, trade, energy security, transport, communications, and tourism, noting that the green energy corridor project connecting the Caspian-Black-Mediterranean Sea regions, as well as efforts to develop the Middle Corridor, are among the crucial areas.

The meeting also revolved around the issues of enhancing joint efforts within the organization in energy, good governance, and other working groups.

Touching upon Azerbaijan’s Presidency of the 29th session of the Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP29), the parties emphasized the importance of adopting a number of important decisions regarding the new climate finance target, carbon markets, the Loss and Damage Fund, and the significance of joint action in the BSEC to combat climate change .

The sides also explored regional issues of mutual interest.
