On April 21, 2026, five Azerbaijani citizens-two women and three children-were repatriated from conflict zones in Syria through Türkiye, according to Azerbaijan's Foreign Ministry
The process was carried out through coordinated measures by the Azerbaijani government in line with the provisions of the Presidential Decree No. 2336 of October 28, 2023, which approved the "Rules for the Repatriation and Rehabilitation of Azerbaijani Minors Living in Difficult Conditions Abroad," The Caspian Post reports.
Initially, the location, identity, and citizenship of the repatriated individuals were verified, after which their transfer to Türkiye was organized. Representatives of the relevant state bodies responsible for repatriation from Iraq and Syria were dispatched to Istanbul, where the citizens underwent preliminary medical and psychological examinations.
The Embassy of Azerbaijan in Türkiye and the Consulate General in Istanbul coordinated the issuance of return certificates and flight tickets. On April 21, 2026, the citizens were repatriated to Azerbaijan under the escort of the official delegation.
Measures are planned to ensure their social rehabilitation and reintegration into society. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs emphasized that necessary steps will continue to be taken to repatriate Azerbaijani citizens who have become victims of armed conflicts abroad.
