Azerbaijan’s Shamakhi Hosts COP29 Summer Camp to Boost Climate Education Skills

The COP29 Climate Change Summer Camp has officially opened in Azerbaijan’s Shamakhi, bringing together early career educators from around the world to strengthen climate education skills and foster global collaboration.

The camp is designed to equip pre-service and in-service teachers with the knowledge and pedagogical tools necessary to effectively teach climate change, linking global climate discussions with local action, The Caspian Post informs per local media.

Participants will also engage in peer learning, intercultural collaboration, and global networking, while contributing to the Greening Education Partnership and promoting the development of green schools. Teachers are encouraged to initiate school- and community-based climate projects after the camp.

The program is organized in partnership with leading institutions, including the Central and Eastern European Countries (CEE), UNESCO, UNICEF, the Foundation for Environmental Education (FEE), the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA), the UNESCO Institute for Lifelong Learning (UIL), the UNFCCC, and the Regional Development Public Union (RIIB).

The Presidency Youth Climate Champion (PYCC) initiative, first launched at COP28 in Dubai, seeks to ensure meaningful and structured participation of children and youth in climate action, particularly within the UNFCCC framework.
