An Azerbaijani civilian was killed in a landmine explosion in the liberated Khojavand district, authorities said.

The incident occurred on Thursday in the village of Ashaghi Veysalli, according to a joint statement issued by the Interior Ministry, the Prosecutor General’s Office, and the Azerbaijan Mine Action Agency (ANAMA), The Caspian Post reports.

The statement said that Ramiz Hajiyev, born in 1968 and a resident of Aghdam district, died after triggering an anti-tank landmine while herding cattle in an area that had not yet been cleared of mines along the former line of contact.

An investigation into the incident has been launched.

Authorities once again urged citizens to strictly follow safety rules, pay attention to mine danger warning signs, avoid entering unfamiliar areas, and refrain from interfering with locations where demining or fencing operations are underway.
