Azerbaijan's State Security Service Foils Terror Plot Targeting Embassy

Persons Plotting A Terrorist Attack Against One Of The Embassies In Azerbaijan Have Been Arrested, According To The State Security Service Of Azerbaijan.

During the operational-investigative measures carried out by the State Security Service, suspicions arose that Azerbaijani citizens - Ilgar Guliyev (born in 2000, known by the religious alias "Abu Zar al-Muhajir"), Amin Piriyev (born in 2005, alias "Abdurashid"), and Elvin Alizada (born in 2005, alias "Abdurrahman al-Azeri") - were preparing to commit a terrorist attack against an embassy in Baku on the grounds of religious hostility, The Caspian Post reports, citing local media.

The named individuals, having established criminal ties with members of ISIS's "Wilayat Khorasan" armed group, obtained items to be used as weapons and, acting in collusion, approached the area where the embassy is located. They were detained by State Security Service officers before carrying out the attack.

As a result, Guliyev, Piriyev, and Alizada have been charged under Articles 28, 214.2.1, 28, 214.2.3, and 28, 214.2.6 of the Criminal Code (preparation of terrorism by a group acting in collusion, using items as weapons, and motivated by religious hostility). By court decision, they have been placed under pre-trial detention.

Investigative and operational measures in the criminal case are currently ongoing.
