An Azerbaijani citizen who was wanted internationally through Interpol has been extradited from the United Arab Emirates to Azerbaijan.

According to the Ministry of Justice, Azerbaijani national Polad Babayev was located and detained in the UAE before being transferred to Azerbaijani authorities, The Caspian Post reports.

Investigators allege that beginning in 2022, Babayev defrauded multiple citizens by promising assistance in obtaining disability pensions or securing employment.

Authorities say he collected money from victims under various pretexts, causing significant financial losses.

Babayev has been charged under Articles 178.2.1 and 178.2.4 of Azerbaijan’s Criminal Code, which relate to fraud.

The Ministry of Justice said that following the submission of the required documentation and negotiations between the parties, an agreement was reached to extradite Babayev to Azerbaijan.
