The Italian news outlet Agenzia Nova has highlighted the importance of the August 8 meeting in Washington among Azerbaijan’s President Ilham Aliyev, US President Donald Trump, and Armenia’s Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan.
In its article titled “Armenia-Azerbaijan: Will the ‘Trump Route’ Bring Peace to the Caucasus?”, the portal focused on the signing of a Joint Declaration at the White House, calling it a landmark step toward resolving the nearly 40-year South Caucasus conflict, The Caspian Post reports via local media.
The agreement, forged after months of confidential negotiations, establishes a permanent ceasefire, restores diplomatic and trade relations, and affirms mutual respect for sovereignty and territorial integrity.
A centerpiece of the deal is the creation of the “Trump Route for International Peace and Prosperity” (TRIPP)-a strategic corridor through Armenian territory connecting Azerbaijan to its Nakhchivan enclave. This arrangement gives Azerbaijan direct access between its two regions without relying on third-party routes, while allowing Armenia to maintain its territorial sovereignty.
During the signing ceremony, President Trump described the pact as a historic milestone, praising the courage of both leaders and highlighting the agreement’s potential to transform the region. President Aliyev called it a “miracle” achieved in six months, emphasizing that it brings lasting peace after two wars and more than three decades of failed negotiations.
The article notes that the accord is set to reshape the geopolitical landscape of the South Caucasus.
