The Netherlands Embassy in Azerbaijan has thanked Azerbaijani authorities for rescuing a Dutch citizen who was seriously injured during a hiking trip in the mountainous area of Shaki on August 29.

The embassy expressed particular appreciation to Azerbaijan’s State Border Service for carrying out a difficult rescue operation in challenging mountainous terrain and in darkness. The injured woman was evacuated by helicopter and received emergency first aid at the scene, according to the embassy's message on X.

The Dutch diplomatic mission also praised the medical assistance, professionalism and rapid response of staff at Shaki Central District Hospital and Yeni Klinika in Baku.

According to the embassy, the coordinated response of the relevant Azerbaijani authorities played an important role in ensuring the safety of the Dutch citizen.

The woman sustained serious injuries after reportedly being attacked by a pack of dogs while hiking in the mountainous area of Shaki. She was evacuated from an altitude of around 2,000 meters above sea level under difficult conditions and taken to Shaki Central District Hospital, where doctors performed emergency surgery.
