Senegalese President Bassirou Diomaye Faye is expected to pay an official visit to Azerbaijan before the end of the year, according to Senegal’s ambassador to Türkiye, Azerbaijan, Turkmenistan and Georgia, Moustapha Sokhna Diop.

The ambassador said Senegal and Azerbaijan are planning to step up high-level exchanges, starting with ministerial visits, while preparations are underway for the Senegalese president’s trip to Baku, according to Report.

The upcoming meetings are expected to focus on expanding trade and economic ties, as well as cooperation in the oil and gas sector.

Diop noted that Senegal has discovered significant oil and gas reserves in recent years and is interested in learning from Azerbaijan’s extensive experience in hydrocarbon production, management and processing.

The ambassador also stressed that bilateral trade between the two countries remains limited, saying stronger official contacts and closer links between private-sector representatives are needed to unlock new opportunities.

“Business communities in both countries need to better understand what Azerbaijan and Senegal produce and what opportunities they can offer,” he said, adding that stronger connections could pave the way for joint ventures and long-term trade partnerships.

Diop expressed optimism that President Faye’s expected visit could help take Azerbaijan-Senegal relations to a new and higher level.
