The State Oil Company of the Azerbaijan Republic (SOCAR) and Canadian energy firm Gran Tierra Energy Inc. are set to conduct 2D seismic surveys to gain a more detailed understanding of the geological structure of the Guba-Caspian oil and gas region.
The seismic work will be carried out under an agreement covering the exploration, development and production sharing of a promising onshore block in the region, SOCAR reports.
As part of the initial preparations, a meeting was held at the Guba District Executive Authority to discuss the next steps for implementing the project.
SOCAR and Gran Tierra Energy signed the relevant agreement in February 2026. Under its terms, Gran Tierra Energy, which will serve as the project operator, will hold a 65% participating interest.
The exploration program is expected to include the collection of gravity data, 3D seismic surveys and the drilling of exploration wells aimed at assessing the hydrocarbon potential of the contract area.
