Three Azerbaijanis to Remain in Custody Over Deadly Shipwreck

A court has extended the detention of three Azerbaijani citizens arrested in connection with a shipwreck off the coast of Northern Cyprus by seven more days.

Orkhan Hasanoglu, chairman of the Azerbaijan-Cyprus Friendship Society, said that the detainees are Rashad Ibrahimov, Gadir Guliyev and Valeh Humbatov, according to Report.

The next court hearing is scheduled for October 16.

The shipwreck occurred off the coast of Kyrenia on August 30. A total of 239 people were rescued, while the death toll has reached 26. Search operations for missing passengers are continuing.

Nine people have been detained in connection with the incident, including three Azerbaijani nationals.
