Secretary-General of the Organization of Turkic States (OTS) Kubanychbek Omuraliev has said that a new regional metrology organization, TurkMET, may soon be established to strengthen cooperation among the Turkic states.
Omuraliev made these remarks during the 2nd Meeting of Ministers of Industry, Science, Technology, and Innovation of OTS member states in Baku, The Caspian Post reports via local media.
He said that preparatory work is already underway, with member states submitting proposals for the organization’s charter.
“We expect it to be signed in the near future. At the same time, at Kyrgyzstan’s initiative, a Memorandum of Understanding between the standardization bodies of OTS member states has been prepared. This document will mark an important milestone in strengthening institutional cooperation, mutual recognition, and harmonization of standards across the Turkic region,” Omuraliev stated.
In addition, Omuraliev emphasized the Turkic states’ growing collaboration in space technologies, including participation in Türkiye’s CubeSat project and educational programs, as well as Azerbaijan’s work on creating a legal framework to support regional space partnerships.
The creation of TurkMET and related initiatives are expected to boost technological integration, standardization, and innovation across the Turkic world.
