Turkey Sentences Actor Who Played Sultan Suleiman in "The Magnificent Century"

Actor Halit Ergenç, who played the role of Sultan Suleiman I in the TV series "The Magnificent Century", was sentenced to imprisonment in Turkey, The Caspian Post reports citing the Anadolu Agency.

Ergenc was sentenced for his participation in the Gezi Park protests in Istanbul in 2013.

"They began as protests against environmental violations and later grew into large-scale anti-government clashes. Ergench was involved in the case as a witness. His connections with one of the key figures, actor and activist Mehmet Ali Aloboda, were also considered. Ergench himself denied the charges," the text says.

Initially, the actor was planned to be sent to prison for two years and three months, but then the court took into account his behavior and mitigated the punishment, postponing it.
