Pakistan is set to launch pilot cargo shipments to Uzbekistan through a new transport route that will also pass through China and Kyrgyzstan, according to Uzbekistan Railways’ subsidiary Temiryulkargo.
The company’s press service announced that Temiryulkargo has signed a strategic cooperation agreement with the International Road Transport Chamber of Pakistan (IRT Chamber of Pakistan), The Caspian Post reports, citing Uzbek media.
The main goal of the agreement is to expand cargo transportation between Uzbekistan and Pakistan. The two sides plan to develop joint mechanisms for multimodal, monomodal, and intermodal freight transport.
The agreement also envisions deeper regional integration, including the development of a new transport corridor linking Pakistan, China, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, and northern countries.
Within this framework, a new route will be established from Pakistan through Tajikistan and Uzbekistan toward northern destinations and beyond. Both parties also intend to cooperate on improving transport infrastructure in their respective countries.
According to Temiryulkargo, the expected increase in export, import, and transit operations will help strengthen trade and economic ties between the two nations. The partnership is expected to enhance transport connectivity between Central and South Asia and broaden the region’s access to seaports.
A delegation from the IRT Chamber of Pakistan visited Uzbekistan last week. During talks with Temiryulkargo, the sides discussed the delivery of goods via alternative routes and the transport of perishable products. They also agreed to launch pilot shipments as part of the new cooperation.
