Azerbaijan, Saudi Arabia Hold Another Round of Political Consultations

The third round of political consultations between the Foreign Ministries of Azerbaijan and Saudi Arabia was held in Riyadh on December 9.

The Azerbaijani delegation was led by Deputy Foreign Minister Yalchin Rafiyev, while the Saudi Arabian delegation was headed by Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs Waleed bin Abdulkarim El-Khereiji, The Caspian Post reports, citing the Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry.

The meeting focused on strengthening bilateral relations and discussed the current state of, and prospects for, cooperation in the political, economic, energy, and humanitarian fields.

Both sides emphasized that Azerbaijan’s hosting of COP29 in November 2024 offers new opportunities for enhancing existing cooperation between the two countries.

The delegations also explored opportunities for collaboration within the UN, the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, the Non-Aligned Movement, and other international organizations, while coordinating continued mutual support.

Yalchin Rafiyev briefed his counterpart on the post-conflict situation in the region, including the steps taken by Azerbaijan to establish lasting peace, challenges related to landmines in the liberated territories, and the ongoing restoration and reconstruction efforts.

The discussions also highlighted the wide potential for expanding cooperation in tourism, green energy, and investment. Additionally, regional and international issues, along with other topics of mutual interest, were addressed.

During his visit, Yalchin Rafiyev also met with Khalid Almehaid, Deputy Minister of Sustainability and Climate Change of Saudi Arabia.
