Giorgi Kalandarishvili, the Chair of the Georgian Central Election Commission, on Friday claimed there was “no evidence” proving that “any manipulation” had occurred during the parliamentary elections held in the country last month.
Kalandarishvili claimed the domestic opposition’s allegations involving the election administration were “absolutely controversial and mutually exclusive”, The Caspian Post reports, citing Georgian media.
“We hear absolutely controversial, mutually exclusive statements. On the one hand, a request is made to the institution that it should make public the information that does not actually belong to public information and its protection is ensured by law. On the other hand, they also distrust the institution regarding its actions”, the Chair said.
Kalandarishvili further expressed the election administration’s “full readiness” to cooperate with authorities and provide “all necessary information” to the Prosecutor’s Office of Georgia ongoing investigation into the claims.
The Office on Thursday called on representatives of domestic political parties to “refrain from spreading unverified information aimed at discrediting” the ongoing investigation.
