IMF Warns Hormuz Reopening Won’t Bring Instant Energy Market Relief

The restoration of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz in the event that Iran and the United States reach a deal will not lead to an immediate normalization of conditions in global energy markets, International Monetary Fund (IMF) Official Spokesperson Julie Kozack said during a briefing, The Caspian Post reports, citing TASS.

Kozack stated that “countries with weaker buffers, including reserves of oil and refined products, are facing a harder time at the moment” and emphasized that even if the Strait of Hormuz were to reopen, the effects on global markets would not be immediate.

She added that while reopening the Strait of Hormuz would be very important for the global economy, it would still take time for its full impact to be felt in practice, due to logistical and transportation delays, including the time required for oil tankers to travel from the Strait of Hormuz to their final destinations.

Kozack further noted that it remains necessary to assess the impact of infrastructure damage on production levels, stating that this factor will also influence how quickly energy markets can stabilize.
