Russia's Rosatom Intensifies Push for Saudi Nuclear Power Project

Russian state nuclear corporation Rosatom is holding discussions with Saudi Arabia on the sidelines of the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum regarding participation in a tender for the construction of a nuclear power plant, Rosatom CEO Alexey Likhachev said, The Caspian Post reports, citing TASS.

“Saudi Arabia continues to conduct a tender for selecting vendors for the construction of large power plants. We are actively participating, using the forum for negotiations on this issue, and we feel comfortable. We feel strong interest in this work from our Saudi friends,” Likhachev noted.

The Rosatom chief also provided an update on the company’s nuclear construction activities in Egypt, describing the project as one of the largest currently underway.

“Construction in Egypt is in full swing; this is currently the largest and most powerful construction project on the planet,” he said. “This year we plan to install the reactor vessel for the second unit and aim to begin commissioning works on the first unit in 2028.”

According to Likhachev, the Egyptian nuclear project continues to advance on schedule, with major milestones planned over the coming years.
