Saudi Arabian Company to Build New Gas-Piston Power Pant in Uzbekistan

A private Saudi Arabian company, Pemco, is set to construct a new gas-piston power plant in Uzbekistan’s Samarkand region.

"Saudi Arabia’s Pemco company will begin work by the end of the year on a new 200 MW gas-piston power plant in the Samarkand region," said Minister of Energy Jurabek Mirzamakhmudov, The Caspian Post reports, citing Uzbek media.

The announcement came after President Shavkat Mirziyoyev met with prominent Saudi business leaders to discuss investment opportunities and bilateral cooperation.

Mirzamakhmudov also highlighted several other energy projects being implemented with Saudi companies. Notably, ACWA Power has launched Uzbekistan’s first large-scale thermal power plant. In addition, a solar power plant is operational in Kibray district of Tashkent region, two large wind farms have been commissioned in Bukhara, and the first 100 MW wind power plant in Karakalpakstan is now in operation.

“Currently, practical work on new wind and solar power plants has begun. We also plan to launch the country’s first large-scale battery storage system in Parkent district,” Mirzamakhmudov said.

He added that renewable fuel production is planned to support the new airport under construction in Tashkent. For this purpose, Uzbekistan has reached an agreement with Saudi Arabia’s Vision Invest and the US-based Air Products to produce sustainable aviation fuel (SAF).

On 15 October, President Shavkat Mirziyoyev met with leaders of ACWA Power, Data Volt, Pemco, and other major companies, inviting them to actively participate in projects aimed at improving living standards in Uzbekistan.
