Uzbekistan Sharply Boosts Gas Imports from Russia, Turkmenistan

Uzbekistan imported significantly more natural gas than it exported in the first eight months of 2026, according to data from the National Statistics Committee.

According to the data, between January and August, natural gas imports from Russia and Turkmenistan increased by 15.2% to $1.21 billion, The Caspian Post reports.

Of this total, $124.3 million accounted for liquefied gas (propane), with purchases of the fuel rising 3.5-fold.

Imports amounted to $167.6 million in January before falling sharply to $34.6 million in February. They then increased to $158.3 million in March and $147.8 million in April, before reaching $216.4 million in May.

In June, Uzbekistan’s fuel purchases reached a year-to-date high of $247 million. The figure subsequently dropped to $38.3 million in July, before rising again to $206.1 million in August.
