On February 12, 2025, specialists from the regional ecology department collected water samples to test for chemicals and petroleum products after the Caspian Sea turned red in color, The Caspian Post reports citing Kazinform.
"As a result of the analysis, no harmful substances were found. The water is safe. The water naturally has a dark brownish-red color caused by algae. After the recent snowfall this phenomenon became more pronounced. The algae grow in shallow waters, particularly along our coastline. In areas where they accumulate, the water changes color. Of course, even though we understand this natural phenomenon, we are still required to check the water’s condition," said Kaissar Nadirbek, head of the ecology department.
