Georgia Arrests Uzbek-US Citizen Sought by FBI

Georgian police detained a dual US-Uzbek citizen at Tbilisi International Airport who was wanted by the US Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) over allegations of supporting terrorist organizations, Georgia’s Interior Ministry said.

According to the ministry, the individual was detained by Georgian police at Tbilisi airport, News Georgia reports.

US law enforcement authorities allege that the suspect established a network in the United States to provide financial support to a foreign terrorist organisation. The leader and members of the group allegedly provided active logistical and financial support to terrorist organisations operating in Syria, including Islamic State.

The suspect is also accused of encouraging individuals to travel to Syria to fight and offering them assistance, the ministry said.

Extradition proceedings against the detainee are currently under way in accordance with Georgian law.
