The EU member states deported 12,615 Georgian citizens in the first half of 2026.
The largest number of returns occurred in the first quarter, from January to March, when 10,475 Georgian citizens were deported from EU member states, according to news georgia.
Georgia ranked second worldwide for deportations during this period, behind Türkiye, which recorded 13,405 returns.
Deportations slowed in the second quarter, from April to June, with 2,140 Georgian citizens returned to their home country.
Nevertheless, Georgia remained among the top three nationalities by the number of people deported from the EU during the period.
Türkiye ranked first with 3,765 people, followed by Syria with 2,770.
Eurostat, the EU’s statistical office, defines returned individuals as non-EU citizens who were staying illegally in the bloc and left following an official order to leave.
Meanwhile, Algerian citizens received the highest number of orders to leave the EU in the second quarter of 2026, with 10,390 decisions. They were followed by Moroccan citizens with 6,200 orders and Syrian citizens with 5,180.
Overall, EU member states issued 110,300 orders to leave to foreign nationals in the second quarter, a 12% decrease compared with the same period in 2025. However, the number of deportations actually carried out rose by nearly 10%, reaching 36,800 people.
France issued the highest number of orders to leave, at 32,400, followed by Portugal with 11,100 and Germany with 8,100.
Germany recorded the highest number of actual deportations, sending back 8,400 people, followed by France with 3,800 and Poland with 3,000.
