A police officer was killed in an armed attack on a checkpoint near the city of Rask in Iran’s southeastern Sistan and Baluchestan province.

The officer, identified as Alireza Sanchouli, was serving with Iran’s law enforcement forces, according to Iran International.

Measures are underway to identify and arrest those responsible for the attack.

The incident occurred in Sistan and Baluchestan, a province in southeastern Iran that has experienced armed attacks and clashes involving security forces in recent years.
