Azerbaijan and Iran Review Bilateral Ties in Turkmenbashi

Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev met with Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian in Turkmenbashi, Turkmenistan, on October 9 to discuss bilateral relations and ongoing joint projects.

During the meeting, the two leaders recalled their previous meetings and telephone conversations, expressing satisfaction with the recent visit of an Azerbaijani delegation to Iran and the discussions held during the trip, according to Azertac.

Pezeshkian highlighted the historic bonds of friendship and kinship between the two countries. He also reiterated Iran’s appreciation of Azerbaijan’s position as a friendly neighbor during recent events in Iran.

The leaders discussed Iran’s participation for the first time in the “CIS Plus” format as a country that is not a member of the Commonwealth of Independent States.

They also welcomed progress on the Aghband-Kelaleh project, noting that work had reached its final stage.

Aliyev and Pezeshkian further emphasized that relevant authorities in both countries were continuing efforts to implement agreements and proposals discussed at their previous meeting in Bishkek, the capital of Kyrgyzstan, aimed at expanding bilateral cooperation.
