Several explosions were heard in southern Iran on Thursday night, The Caspian Post reports, citing Iran International.
According to state and local media, the exact cause and location of the explosions remain unclear.
The IRGC-affiliated Fars News Agency reported that residents of Bandar Abbas heard multiple sounds resembling explosions near the city. However, the outlet said the source of the incidents has not yet been identified.
Local outlet Eskan News is now reporting six explosions in Sirik in Hormozgan province, at intervals of 40 seconds from one another. Vahid Online also reported explosions heard Thursday night in Qeshm, Minab, Bandar Abbas, Bandar Khamir, and Sirik.
"Some sources say some of the sounds were related to operations by the IRGC Navy to warn certain vessels about unauthorized passage through the Strait of Hormuz. But efforts to determine the exact and full source of the sounds are still ongoing," Tasnim reports.
