Air defense systems were activated Monday night on Iran’s Qeshm Island, situated near the strategically vital Strait of Hormuz, The Caspian Post reports, citing Anadolu.
According to Mehr News Agency, air defense systems on the island were put into operation late Monday evening.
The semi-official Tasnim news agency, citing informed sources, reported that air defense units were activated after drones were detected in the skies above the island.
The sources said the systems were responding to what they described as “hostile targets.”
Iranian authorities have so far not issued an official explanation regarding the activation of the air defense systems.
