Iran has proposed that transit fees for vessels passing through the Strait of Hormuz be paid in its national currency, the rial, according to remarks by the head of the country’s Parliament National Security Commission.
The proposal, put forward within parliament, was highlighted in a post on X by Iran’s consulate general in Mumbai on Friday, The Caspian Post reports.
Under the plan, ships using the strategic waterway would be required to settle transit charges in Iranian currency as part of a broader legislative initiative.
