Pakistan’s military chief, Field Marshal Asim Munir, held talks with Iran’s chief negotiator and speaker of parliament, Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, in Tehran.

Ghalibaf discussed what he described as US violations of its commitments to implement the memorandum of understanding (MoU) signed with Iran in June, with mediation from Qatar and Pakistan, The Caspian Post reports, citing Al Jazeera.

“The US, by breaching its commitments, prevented the establishment of stability in the region and created another reason for distrust,” Ghalibaf told Munir.

Munir said he would continue his efforts to restore stability in the region.

An informed source in Washington, DC, told Al Jazeera that the US president had a phone conversation with Munir last week. According to the source, Trump asked Munir to use his influence to help resume negotiations with Iran.
