Iran trusts Armenia and is confident that Yerevan will not take any steps that threaten the security of the Islamic Republic, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has said.

Speaking to journalists in Yerevan, Araghchi emphasized the close ties between the two countries and Tehran’s confidence in its Armenian partners, according to Sputnik Armenia.

“We maintain close contacts with our Armenian friends and know that they will not take any actions against Iran’s security,” the minister said.

Araghchi arrived in Armenia as part of Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian’s delegation to participate in the COP17 climate summit.

Earlier, Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan said Iran had asked whether the US would maintain a military presence along the proposed route. Armenia responded that there would be no US military presence there.
