Iran's Oil Minister, Mohsen Paknejad, announced that Tehran will present strategic proposals at the 27th Ministerial Meeting of the Gas Exporting Countries Forum (GECF) to enhance collective interests.

According to the Oil Ministry, Iran’s Oil Minister Mohsen Paknejad emphasized the importance of the 27th GECF Ministerial Meeting, describing it as a key platform for coordinating member states’ policies amid growing global uncertainty in gas markets and investment, The Caspian Post reports citing Iranian media.

He noted that, as a founding member of the GECF, Iran has always played an active role in the forum’s ministerial sessions and will this time propose new initiatives designed to safeguard the long-term common interests of all member countries.

Strengthening solidarity among members and promoting bilateral cooperation in the oil and gas sectors will also be among Iran’s main priorities, according to him.

According to the Government Information Center, Iranian Oil Minister Mohsen Paknejad departed Tehran on Tuesday night to attend the 27th Ministerial Meeting of the Gas Exporting Countries Forum (GECF) in Doha, Qatar.

The meeting, which will take place on Thursday, marks the seventh time Qatar has hosted the GECF ministerial session, with the last one held in 2016.

Key items on the agenda include coordination among member states to address global policies that could pose challenges to the development and trade of natural gas. Participants will also discuss organizational matters, including the election of the next GECF Secretary-General and preparations for the 8th GECF Heads of State Summit to be held in Moscow.

An extraordinary session of the GECF Executive Board will convene on Wednesday to review the draft agenda, resolutions, and the final communiqué of the ministerial meeting.

As the GECF’s highest decision-making body, the Ministerial Meeting is held annually to determine key organizational procedures and exchange views on major global and regional developments in the gas industry.
