Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian arrived in New York to attend the United Nations General Assembly, as tensions between Tehran and Washington remain high amid the ongoing military conflict.

Pezeshkian is expected to address the UN General Assembly this week, where he will present Iran’s position and seek to pursue diplomatic efforts to reduce tensions, according to OrdoMundi.ru.

The visit comes amid heightened friction between Iran and the US. The US denied visas to journalists traveling with Pezeshkian’s press pool, while the Iranian president is reportedly not planning a meeting with US President Donald Trump.

An Iranian delegation arrived in New York alongside Pezeshkian. Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi is already in the city and is scheduled to hold bilateral meetings with counterparts from other countries.

Pezeshkian’s address to the UN General Assembly is scheduled for later this week.
