Jordanian air defenses intercepted 18 Iranian ballistic missiles launched toward the kingdom.
The military said a total of 20 missiles were launched. The remaining two reportedly fell in uninhabited areas, with no casualties reported. Specialized teams have been deployed to secure the areas where missile debris landed, according to mk.ru.
The reported attack followed a claim by Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) that it had targeted US forces at Muwaffaq Salti Air Base near Al-Azraq.
The IRGC said missiles struck areas used to service F-35, F-16 and F-15 fighter jets.
According to the report, the Iranian strike came in response to US attacks on Iranian oil tankers. US forces had previously destroyed five oil tankers in the Persian Gulf and Gulf of Oman, reportedly in retaliation for an IRGC attack on a US Navy vessel.
