The Israeli Air Force carried out strikes on Iranian Navy positions in the Caspian Sea on Wednesday night, in what Israeli authorities described as the first such attack since the start of Operation Roaring Lion.
According to the Israel Defense Forces (IDF), the operation targeted multiple naval facilities, including a major Iranian Navy port where dozens of vessels were reportedly destroyed, The Caspian Post reports, citing Israeli media.
Among them were four missile ships equipped with air defense and anti-submarine systems, as well as a corvette-class warship.
The strikes also hit key infrastructure at the port, including a central naval command center and facilities used for the repair and maintenance of military vessels.
In a statement, the IDF said the operation would significantly weaken Iran’s naval capabilities and reduce its control over maritime activity in the Caspian Sea.
A senior Israeli Navy official added that the damage inflicted could limit Iran’s naval capabilities in the region for years.
