Deputy Minister: Kazakhstan Outlines Key Priorities in Rare Earth Strategy

Kazakh Deputy Minister of Industry and Construction Olzhas Saparbekov has presented key focus areas of the nation’s rare earth metals strategy.

Saparbekov made these remarks at a government meeting, The Caspian Post reports, citing Kazakh media.

During the session, Saparbekov confirmed that a comprehensive development plan for the rare earth metals industry spanning 2024 to 2028 has been officially adopted and is now underway, following the directives of the president.

He reported that exploration work has been successfully completed at 11 rare metals sites, notably including the promising Kuirektykol deposit. On the manufacturing front, eight enterprises across Kazakhstan are currently producing specialized rare earth products.

Looking forward, the country plans to prioritize four core segments within the rare earth sector, selected based on Kazakhstan’s industrial capabilities and global market demand: battery materials, heat-resistant alloys, semiconductor materials, and permanent magnets.

Saparbekov also highlighted Kazakhstan’s active cooperation with international partners on rare earth elements, citing ongoing collaboration with the EU, the UK, South Korea, China, and Japan.
