Earthquake Strikes Kazakhstan with Magnitude 4.0

An earthquake has occurred near Almaty, Kazakhstan.

The tremor struck on January 12 at 11:44 a.m. (GMT+5), The Caspian Post reports via Kazakh media.

The epicenter was located 46 kilometers southeast of Almaty and 32 kilometers southeast of Talgar, with a magnitude of 2.9.

The National Scientific Center for Seismological Observations and Research under the Ministry of Emergency Situations reported a slightly higher magnitude of 4.0, but noted that the tremors were not felt anywhere in Kazakhstan.
