Kazakhstan’s team has earned its first medal at the ongoing Junior World Championships in Lima, Peru, with Dana Abdirova claiming silver in the women’s -57 kg division.
Abdirova showcased impressive form throughout the competition, advancing to the final after a decisive semifinal victory over Brazil’s Gyovanna Andrade, The Caspian Post informs via Kazakh media.
In the gold medal match, she faced Japan’s Mio Shirakane in a closely contested bout, ultimately settling for silver.
The medal marks a strong start for Kazakhstan at the Lima championships and highlights the promise of the country’s emerging talent on the global stage.
In related news, several Kazakh athletes have been named recipients of individual scholarships from the International Olympic Committee (IOC), designed to support their training and development ahead of the 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles.
