Gynecologists at City Clinical Hospital No. 7 in Almaty, Kazakhstan have successfully removed a giant uterine fibroid weighing over 2.5 kilograms from a 41-year-old patient.
The patient had delayed surgery for years, fearing the procedure and hoping to preserve fertility, The Caspian Post reports via Kazakh media.
As her pain intensified, she finally sought help. The fibroid was equivalent in size to a 22-week pregnancy, seriously affecting her health and quality of life.
Doctors conducted thorough consultations, explaining risks and treatment importance to ease her anxiety. The surgery was completed without complications, and she was discharged seven days later.
Medical specialists emphasized that timely treatment is critical, as delaying intervention could lead to severe anemia, tissue necrosis, or higher risk of malignancy.
This case highlights the importance of preventive screenings. Since September 2025, oncological screenings in Kazakhstan are free for all citizens, regardless of insurance, under the updated Compulsory Social Health Insurance Law.
