Kazakh President Endorses China’s Global Development Initiative at UN

President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev has voiced strong support for China’s Global Development Initiative (GDI) during a high-level meeting held on the sidelines of the 80th session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA).

The event, organized by China, focused on advancing global cooperation under the theme: “Commitment to Original Aspirations, Jointly Shaping a Bright Future for Global Development”, The Caspian Post informs via Kazakh media.

President Tokayev expressed gratitude to the Chinese government for convening the meeting, which he described as both timely and significant given the current global challenges.

In his address, President Tokayev praised the “forward-looking leadership” of Chinese President Xi Jinping and China’s proactive efforts to promote a more just, inclusive, and effective framework for international cooperation. He emphasized that Kazakhstan fully supports China's global initiatives, including the GDI, which he said plays a vital role in advancing the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

“The Global Development Initiative is a valuable response to ongoing geopolitical and economic turbulence,” President Tokayev said. “It reflects the aspirations of the majority of countries seeking a more balanced and cooperative international order.”

The Kazakh leader also highlighted the alignment between the GDI and China’s recently proposed Global Governance Initiative, introduced by President Xi at the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Summit in Tianjin. He noted that such initiatives could serve as positive forces for stability and development in an increasingly fragmented world.

President Tokayev reaffirmed that the United Nations should remain central in coordinating and implementing global development efforts, ensuring they are inclusive and representative.

Thus, President Tokayev’s remarks at the GDI meeting came shortly after his address to the General Debate of the 80th UN General Assembly, where he outlined Kazakhstan’s positions on key international issues, including sustainable development, global peace, and multilateral cooperation.
