Kazakhstan's Almaty city was shaken by a second earthquake several hours after the first tremor, with residents reporting stronger shaking.

National emergency alerts were sent to people’s phones following the second quake, according to ulys media.

Residents were urged to remain in open areas until further instructions.

People inside buildings were advised to stay calm and inform their relatives of their whereabouts. Residents were also asked to contact the Department of Emergency Situations if they noticed structural damage or fires.

The seismologists are still clarifying official details about the second tremor.
