A new building for the Kazakhstan-China Joint Earthquake Research Center has been inaugurated in Almaty.

The infrastructure created allows joint scientific research in seismology to begin immediately, Kazinform reported.

Before the intergovernmental agreement is finalized, a Center for Earthquake Research was established within the National Scientific Center of Seismology, including three specialized laboratories.

These labs already match the planned model of the future joint center, enabling collaborative studies.

The National Scientific Center for Seismological Observations and Research of the Kazakh Emergencies Ministry and the Institute of Geophysics of China Earthquake Administration signed a memorandum of understanding on scientific and technical cooperation.

The project aims to develop modern methods of monitoring and forecasting seismic activity.

Research outcomes are expected to enhance seismic safety in both Kazakhstan and China, contributing to regional resilience against earthquakes.
