Kazakhstan Braces for Intense Cold Snap This Week

This week will see an intense cold snap with temperatures in southern and northern Kazakhstan dropping to around -15, -35°C.

According to the statement released by Kazhydromet, a national weather agency, precipitation (mostly snowfall) will douse most regions of Kazakhstan on January 21-22 due to a northwestern cyclone. Heavy wet snow is expected to fall in the south and southeast, The Caspian Post reports, citing Kazakh media.

Chances of blizzard, ice-slick, fog and 15-28 mps wind will be high across the country, while strong wind will gust up to 30 mps in the east, south and southeast.

Mets warn that temperatures in northern Kazakhstan will sharply plummet below -25, -35° and in the south they will hover around -15, -25°C.

As previously reported, the abovementioned northern cyclone has been setting the tone of weather in Kazakhstan starting from this past weekend.
