Kazakhstan Enacts Law Mandating Migrant Registration

The Senate of the Parliament of Kazakhstan approved a law that introduces an obligation for migrants to register their place of residence in the country if they plan to stay for more than 30 days, The Caspian Post reports citing TASS.

Amendments are being made to the regulatory document on population migration. Under the amendments, immigrants entering Kazakhstan for more than 30 calendar days “are required to register with the internal affairs authorities of the Republic of Kazakhstan no later than the thirtieth calendar day after crossing the state border.”

An exception is granted to citizens of countries with which the republic has ratified international treaties.

If a migrant changes their place of residence, they are required to re-register within five working days.
