Kazakhstan is facing significant recruitment challenges across several key sectors, with healthcare experiencing some of the most severe staff shortages.
The Ministry of Labor and Social Protection’s figures highlight a substantial gap between the number of vacancies and available applicants for several medical specialties, Qazinform News Agency reports.
There are only 100 resumes for 469 obstetrician-gynecologist vacancies, 139 for 448 pediatrician positions and 75 for 300 anesthesiologist-resuscitator jobs.
The country is also experiencing shortages of oncologists, neonatologists and endocrinologists.
Employers are also struggling to recruit electricians, mechanics, fitters, welders, machine and equipment operators, construction workers and drivers.
Engineers and industrial automation specialists are increasingly sought after as Kazakhstan expands industrial production, launches construction projects and modernizes businesses. The development of transport and energy infrastructure is also contributing to demand.
Employers are placing greater emphasis on candidates who combine practical experience with knowledge of modern technologies.
Demand remains strong for software developers, application programmers and other IT professionals. The growing use of automation and artificial intelligence is also increasing the need for workers with digital skills.
According to long-term forecasts, Kazakhstan’s economy will require 2.9 million workers by 2035, with more than half of the demand expected to come from skilled trades.
To address changing labor market needs, Kazakhstan expanded its list of in-demand occupations from 51 to 174 in 2026. The updated list covers engineering, construction, manufacturing, biotechnology, green energy and nuclear power.
