Kazakhstan, Georgia Launch Trial Exchange of Digital Transport Permits

Kazakhstan and Georgia have launched a pilot exchange of electronic permits for international road freight, a move aimed at reducing paperwork, improving transparency and streamlining cross-border cargo transportation.

Dastan Zhumakulov, head of the Automobile Transport and Transport Control Committee at Kazakhstan’s Transport Ministry, announced the initiative at the New Silk Way forum in Astana, Qazinform reports.

Kazakhstan introduced a similar electronic permit system with Azerbaijan, Türkiye and Kyrgyzstan in 2026. Around 700,000 digital permits have been issued in total under the system.

The integration of government information systems will make it possible to track the entire permit process, from issuance to confirmation that a permit has been used.

Officials expect the system to improve transparency in the road freight market, reduce administrative barriers for transport operators and enable a shift towards risk-based inspections.

The digital exchange is part of Kazakhstan’s broader efforts to modernize international freight procedures and improve the efficiency of transport links with regional partners.

By expanding electronic permit exchanges, Kazakhstan and its partners aim to make cross-border road transportation more transparent and efficient, supporting trade and connectivity across the region.
